Farewell

Another season has closed for Scott and his fan site. Looks like it's time for golf and hunting.... I may post some pictures of that during the offseason.

Scott is on fire.

In a 5-4 loss last night against the Blue Jays, Scott threw 1.2 innings, gave up one walk and struck out four. His ERA dipped to 3.06

As we near the end of the season, Scott continues to throw well.
Another inning down tonight, 1 walk, 1 strikeout.

His ERA is down to 3.23

Scott buzzed 3 batters last night in their 8-1 loss to the Red Sox.

His numbers: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 K.

After a few rough days at the office, Scott returned last night with a scoreless inning.
He allowed 1 walk, while striking out 1.

Tough All Over

The Rays took a beating from the Red Sox last night. The entire pitching staff got beat up, including the Red Sox.
I actually got to watch Scott throw last night, and he just didn't seem to have his stuff.
He looked like he was working harder than usual to get the ball to the catcher. Although I guess the same could apply to most of the pitchers who threw last night.
Ah well, a rough outing is expected every once in a while.

Time to get back up on the horse.

Quotes, Rants & Other Stuff

From the St. Petersburg Times:

"I think it takes being knocked down, and knocked down hard, and knowing what it takes to get back up again," said the 29-year-old Dohmann, who has allowed just one earned run in his past 15 appearances. "That's what this game is based on, failure. I think the experience factor is a big key, being comfortable in those situations when they arise."

I'm still amazed at the number of people on 'fan' forums for the Rays, who still don't give Scott respect. They are still waiting for him to fail.
As a reliever, the ability to keep your ERA down is important. It's also a tough role because you only pitch 1-3 innings. If you give up even one run, your ERA takes a blow. As a starter going at least 5 innings, you can afford to give up one earned run. So when a relief pitcher goes 15 innings without giving up an earned run, I don't think it's a fluke. Scott did it once before with the Colorado Rockies (not sure how many innings, but I think it was around 18?). Anyway.. it seems to be the same story every season.. Scott has a rough pre-season and then gets dumped in the minors. You would think that if the managers/coaches knew the players, they would also know their history. Ah well.
I support the Rays. I support the pitching staff. I don't complain about the other players because you never know when one of them will bail Scott out. It's happened quite a bit already (Aki, Upton, Young, Pena). They have all made spectacular plays in the field to back Scott.
Then, there are the other relievers... if they come in after Scott has left runners on base, I pull for them to keep those runners from scoring.
If all I did here was pull for Scott and pull against everyone else, how could I call myself a fan?
What good does it do to go on the forum and complain and belittle players? It only shows that you have a keyboard and internet connection and know how to hide behind them. Oh, and it probably does very little for the players who read the comments.

Scott threw 2 good innings tonight against the Orioles.
He gave up one hit, one walk while recording one strikeout.

I think I missed Scott's 3rd win the other night. Sorry!


His ERA stands at 2.08.

Update

Despite giving up a homerun to the first batter he faced in the inning, Scott ensured that the remaining Oriole batters went quietly.
Scott surrendered 2 more hits outside of the homerun, but also caught a runner in a rundown trying to steal 2nd base.
He also registered a strikeout.
All in all, the HR didn't hurt Scott's ERA much.

Scott threw another scoreless inning today in the win over the A's.

Scott closed the game last night, throwing 1 inning. He recorded 1 hit and 1 strikeout. His ERA has dipped to 2.04.
Kazmir threw an amazing game, holding the A's to 3 runs while tallying 13 K's.

Scott picked up his second win of the season today against the Indians.
He threw two innings, gave up 1 hit, 1 BB, and 1 K.
His ERA is down to 2.40.
Way to go!

Scott threw 2 innings last night against the Indians.
No runs, 3 hits, no walks.

He also took a ball off of his throwing hand, via Kenny Lofton. Scott stayed in the game and I have not heard an injury report. I am suspecting that he is fine.
Scott's ERA stands at 2.77.


Jackson threw another good game, but just didnt' get the run support needed for a win.

Statement Retraction

I would like to retract the statement I made in the previous post... it sounds like an excuse.
Ok, so its been a while since Scott pitched in a game. He's ready. Let's go.

What Gives???

Scott was on a roll, throwing 8 scoreless innings in relief.
Now, he has been on the bench for 4+ games.

I think he warmed up at least 4 times, but never even got to throw in the game.


That's the way to cool him off. Garbage.

Congratulations

Scott did not throw last night... because Edwin Jackson threw a 9 inning shutout.
Congratulations to Jackson and the Rays for the victory againts the Rangers.

I did not get to watch the game today, but it appears Scott had another great outing.

His ERA is down to 3.27.

Getting It Done...

The Rays dropped another game to the Tigers, 9-6.

Scott thew very well, facing 2 batters (with inherited runners). He got one ground out and 1 K.
