Statement Retraction

I would like to retract the statement I made in the previous post... it sounds like an excuse.
Ok, so its been a while since Scott pitched in a game. He's ready. Let's go.

What Gives???

Scott was on a roll, throwing 8 scoreless innings in relief.
Now, he has been on the bench for 4+ games.

I think he warmed up at least 4 times, but never even got to throw in the game.


That's the way to cool him off. Garbage.

Congratulations

Scott did not throw last night... because Edwin Jackson threw a 9 inning shutout.
Congratulations to Jackson and the Rays for the victory againts the Rangers.

D'oh No M'oh

I did not get to watch the game today, but it appears Scott had another great outing.
1 inning, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 BB.

His ERA is down to 3.27.

Getting It Done...

The Rays dropped another game to the Tigers, 9-6.

Scott thew very well, facing 2 batters (with inherited runners). He got one ground out and 1 K.

The Rays lost to the Tigers tonight, 6-4.

Scott threw another scoreless inning last night against the Orioles.
He did give up one walk.... but the umpire blew the call on a slider. It should have been a "K" looking.

In any case, the Rays lost 3-1.

COOL UNDER PRESSURE: Overshadowed by Carl Crawford's walkoff homer Monday was reliever Scott Dohmann's work to get out of an 11th-inning bases-loaded jam. After the Jays loaded the bases loaded with one out, Dohmann struck out Reed Johnson, then induced a flyout from Lyle Overbay.
"I wouldn't want to wish that upon any team, extra-inning games two out of three days," Dohmann said, "but those are times when we all have to step up, but you'll take the opportunity when you can get them."
It was Dohmann's fourth straight scoreless outing over a span of 4 1/3 innings.

Scott got his first win tonight against the Blue Jays. He threw 1 inning, giving up 1 hit, struck out 1 , walked 2 and gave up 0 runs.

I do worry about the walks, hopefully he can get that under control before they come back to haunt him. He hasn't given up an earned run in his last 3 outings.

The bullpen tonight did a great job, holding the Jays to just 3 hits and 0 runs.

Crawford hit a walk-off homerun.

Update

Scott faced the heart of the Red Sox order last night and came away unscathed.
1 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 ER.

The Rays fell to the Sox 12-6 in extra innings.

O Boy

The Rays just couldn't get it together against the Orioles. A final score of 10-7 doesn't show the nice pitching that showed up in the middle relief area.
Scott thew 1.2 innings, with 2 K's and 0 ER's - also with 2 inherited runners who didn't score!
Salas and Glover each threw a scoreless inning behind Scott.

That aside, the Rays were unable to win a single game out of three in Baltimore.

Update

I didn't get to watch any sports this weekend on t.v., because I spent the whole time in my bathroom. Why, you ask? Food poisoning? Too much guacamole? No.... remodeling.
I have become very accustomed to copper pipes, flux, solder, shims, blow-in insulation and when to call a plumber. Here are two of my very own tips for painting a room:
1. If your wall still looks like poo after 5 coats of paint - put a 6th coat.
2. You are much less accurate with a paint roller after drinking alcohol (even if it was just 2 Heinekens).
So if you stumbled across this page while searching the internet for tips for painting a room, I'm sorry.

Anyway, on to baseball -

If you were a Devil Ray pitcher anywhere within 2 square miles of Yankee Stadium for the Sunday game, things pretty much ended up badly for you. Except for Glover, who seemed to have some sort of immunity to the beating, the pitching staff really took it on the chin:

At least the Rays were able to take one game against the Yankees, which seemed to wake the sleeping giant.
Play resumes Tuesday against Baltimore in Baltimore.

Scott threw another inning today.
1 Hit, 1 K, 0 BBs.

It's a good sign that he hasn't walked anyone, and he appears to have his control back.

Unfortunately, we lost the first game 7-3.

On to game 2!

New York, New York

I'm not able to catch the game ( I have to 'watch' on MLBGameday.com ), but I got to see Scott's inning. Kinda ran the spectrum: 2 hits, 1 HR, 1 K, 0 BBs. From what I could see, the HR pitch wasn't a bad pitch.. but it's a homer nonetheless.

Jackson threw six strong innings with 0 runs.

Final Score: Rays - 14 Yanks - 4
You have to feel pretty good about beating the Yankees. At home. By 10 runs.

The Call

Well, it looks like we get our shot. Scott has been called up today.
There seems to be some support, some people who are happy to see him up. But as always, there are some who just want to be negative:

In any case, he's done really well in Durham... including a new pitch. He had time to work on it.
Now, if he throws as well as he is able to, perhaps he can lend a hand to the Rays - which is all we asked for.

(Yes, I'm a little late with the post but I have been VERY early in the past.... before things were official, as a matter of fact.. so now I wait until the word is out before I run my mouth)

Scott threw another scoreless inning last night, giving up one hit.
His ERA continues to deflate, down to 2.03.

Other stats: 1.03 WHIP
WHIP (also Baserunners-per-inning or Ratio): Walks + hits divided by the number of innings pitched. This is a traditional rotisserie scoring category. Less than 1.25 is considered very good and more than 1.50 is considered very bad. Values under 1.00 indicate that the pitcher has allowed fewer baserunners than innings pitched and are only achieved occasionally by elite MLB pitchers.

He also has thrown 48.2 innings, while striking out 48 batters.

Huh?

Scott gets mentioned over at DRaysBay... but um.. I don't get the article.
Is he patting Scott on the back or is he downplaying Scott's stats?
Surely he isn't trying to make anyone believe that Scott shouldn't get a chance to throw with the Rays? The stats are layed out for ya, you decide.

Update

Scott threw another great 2.0 innings last night, giving up 1 hit while striking out 2. I think he may have hit a batter, also? Hitting a batter once in a while is ok... it's similar to an animal marking it's territory because it leaves a mark, just without the foul smell.

Update

Scott continues to excel over in Durham. He picked up his 4th win tonight, along with 4 K's.
At this point, he has been doing so well that I feel like a broken record. But that's a good thing. His ERA is a meager 2.45.

If he does any better, he'll be overqualified for the Devil Rays bullpen. (Kidding)
