A Day On The Links

Today I got to play golf with Scott and Devey. Devey is a buddy of Scott's from college, and he also has represented Canada in the Olympics. He also put a spankin' on both of us. I think the picture pretty much sums it up. No need to post scores (this time).

Offseason Updates

Over at Dan Lucero's place, he is wrapping up the Rockies' season in 3 parts. Here is what he had to say about Scott:

SCOTT DOHMANN(32 G, 2-1, 6.10 ERA, 31 IP, 33 H, 6 HR, 19 BB, 35 K)
HIGHLIGHT: 8/8, v FLA – 2 IP (W), 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 K
LOWLIGHT: 4/9, @ SF – 0.1 IP (L), 3 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 0 K
WHAT I SAID: “Stuff-wise, he’s got enough to pick up a few saves this season.”
WHAT I MEANT: “Stuff-wise, he’s got enough to pick up a few hotel tabs in PCL cities everywhere this season while he gets it together.”

A horrific start in which Scott gave up game-losing home runs on back-to-back days in San Francisco saw him demoted to Colorado Springs for the better part of the season. From late April to early August, Scott toiled, punching out batters left and right while learning how to keep the ball in the park. Once he came back in August, it was as the effective reliever we expected at the start of the year. Dohmann posted a 2.59 ERA in 23 appearances over the last two months of the season and showed the ability to rebound from adversity. Get used to this hard throwing Cajun, because I think he’ll be around awhile.

IN 2006, SCOTT WILL… be an integral part of the Rockies bullpen.

End of the Season Blues

I hate to see it end.... I love baseball.
However, it has to end so that new changes can take place. Hopefully Scott will have cemented a place in the Rockies organization. I'd like to see him play a full year next year without visiting AAA.
I would also like to see him throw tonight and get below the 6.00 mark for his ERA.

I also look forward to him coming home, will be good to see him. Perhaps I can get a round of golf in with him.

I will keep posting on here throughout the off-season.

So Close....

Last night, Scott's slider was so fierce that the announcers in Atlanta could not helping laughing at the silly attempts to hit it.
One badly placed fastball got hit into right center, then a little weak grounder to third got misplayed by Garrett Atkins to allow a run.

No biggie. I don't think Scott threw any fastballs under 96. It was quite an outing.

Hurricane Rita

Has kept me occupied until now. Sorry about the lack of updates.
Anyways, my parents are coming back today with lots of pictures from their stay in Colorado. Scott has had good outings this week, and will probably throw against Atlanta tonight.

What a cruddy update, huh?

Update

Scott continues to shine as the season twilights.
Here is a good article from ColoradoRockies.com

My parents (Scott's In-Laws) are flying to Colorado today, to watch Scott's rampage first hand.... so everyone be nice to them when they get there!
Hopefully my pop can get some good photos to last us through the off-season, which I will mix in with some goose hunting pictures. I know you guys can't wait for that.

I'm happy to see my parents go up to Colorado and experience the beauty the town has to offer, along with the exciting baseball coming up this week!!

Respect

From the Rockymountainnews.com site:

"...LIGHTS OUT: Right-handed relief pitcher Scott Dohmann picked up the second win of his career after striking out two in a scoreless 10th inning.
Dohmann has collected both of his wins since he was recalled Aug. 2.
In 13 games during that span, Dohmann has allowed one earned run in 13 2/3 innings. Dohmann was on the Opening Day roster but was sent to Colorado Springs after allowing 14 earned runs in 6 2/3 innings

Chalk Up A Win

Scott is smoking.
On fire.
Enfuego.
He is all of these things.
A great inning today against the Dodgers to get the win!

Coloradorockies.com had this mention:

"...In the top of the final inning, Rockies reliever Scott Dohmann (2-1) shook off a leadoff walk and a two-out bloop double by Jose Valentin that put runners at the corners to work Dioner Navarro into a fly ball to center. Dohmann, who has held opponents to one earned run in 13 2/3 innings since being recalled from the Minors on Aug. 8, struck out two..."

By The Way: Scott is sporting a new look? A beard, perhaps? Maybe he saw what was posted here by the Audience Participation and decided on one? I hope it wasn't the one his wife posted!

Update

Scott continues to throw very well. Another great inning against the Dodgers, lowering his ERA to 6.98.

Update

Thanks to Lonnie for writing in to report Scott's ERA for August, a measly 0.77!
Scott threw a scoreless inning yesterday against the Giants, whom he has had some bouts with earlier this year.
Congratulations!

Stormy Weather

Hurricane Katrina seems to play a role in Colorado, with some of the players.. Scott included. This is from Rocky Mountain News:

"....WEATHER CHANNEL: Hurricane Katrina is more than a curiosity to Rockies pitchers Mike DeJean and Scott Dohmann and catcher Danny Ardoin. The three Louisiana natives have family living in the state and they are tracking the path of the hurricane closely.

Dohmann said so far, things look good for the three Rockies. Their families all live far enough west of New Orleans that they are optimistic the brunt of the storm will miss them. Dohmann's family lives in Morgan City, 50 miles south of Baton Rouge, which is 80 miles northwest of New Orleans.

"They have said they might not see rain, just wind," Dohmann said. "It's not mandatory (evacuation)."

DeJean's family lives in Baton Rouge.

"Talked to my parents," he said. "They just left church and were headed to get something to eat. It's not like you are going to tell my dad to do anything."

Ardoin's family is from Ville Platte, La., which is about 95 miles northwest of Baton Rouge

Vintage Dohmann

,(photo is courtesy of espn.com)
Coloradorockies.com had this article concerning Scott and his recent performances. I love the way the coaching staff is Scott's best friend now that he is doing well. Unlike the way they didn't want to touch him at the beginning of the season when he struggled and they questioned his ability to stay in the major leagues......... pffftt.

"....Learning from experience: Right-handed reliever Scott Dohmann entered Thursday's game with a runner on base and a 5-4 lead and walked the first two batters, Hee-Seop Choi and Jeff Kent, to load the bases. The situation almost certainly would have unraveled in April, when he gave up 14 earned runs in 6 2/3 innings and earned a demotion to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
However, Dohmann struck out Olmedo Saenz on a high fastball and Jayson Werth with a quality mix of fastballs and sliders to end the threat and propel himself into a more favorable position as the Rockies plan their future.
Dohmann said he was trying to be "too fine" at first on Thursday night, but simply decided to go after hitters in the strike zone with his fastball and slider. The aggressive approach fits the attitude Dohmann has had since returning from Colorado Springs eight appearances ago (0.93 ERA).
"I think, early on, I may have been thinking too much about the future, how things would turn out by the end of the season," Dohmann said. "It's tough, but now I realize that there's nothing I can do about the last game, nothing I can do about tomorrow. All I can control is one game at a time, one pitch at a time."
Apodaca said if this is a sign that Dohmann learned from his early-season struggles, they were worthwhile. It could also be a springboard to better work when Dohmann inherits runners. Before Thursday, five of eight men who were on base when he entered games had scored.
"Successes, we seem to take them for granted too many times," Apodaca said. "The stigma and the sting of failure seem to stay with us longer. I want him to remember it and why he wasn't competing before. Yesterday was very encouraging.
"This is answering questions for next year. In the next six weeks, people are going to be answering questions so we don't have to ask them in Spring Training, a very misleading time. It's important for us, as a staff and as an organization, to see Scotty under the gun like that, trying to hold a lead....."

Update

Dan at Up in the Rockies had some good things to say about Scott and the rest of the Rox bullpen. Follow the link to read the whole article....

"...Since coming back from Colorado Springs, Scott Dohmann has regained his 2004 form, transforming from D’OH!-mann to the Dohmannator. In eight appearances, Dohmann has allowed just one earned run and is increasing his role in the pen, racking up two big strikeouts in Thursday night’s game and another big K in Friday nights’ win....."

Daddy Is Getting It Done

Gavin (Scott's son) watches his dad throw a perfect inning against the Cubbies. Last night was a rough start when he walked 2, but he managed to shut down the Dodgers in the bottom of the 6th.

Update

I'm glad they haven't let Scott pitch in the last week. I mean, he probably needs a rest after they let him sit for so long in AAA ball. Besides, his ERA was coming down too quickly and the last thing the Rockies need is a pitcher getting back on track and not giving up runs..... *End Sarcasm*

What gives? Let my boy throw!!!
